Church reunion anniversary fete begins

Geevarghese Mar Themothios hoisting the ceremonial flag to mark the beginning of the three-day 74th anniversary of the reunion of the Malankara Catholic Church with the Catholic Church on the St John's Cathedral premises in Thiruvalla on Sunday.

PATHANAMTHITTA, SEPT. 19. The 74th anniversary of the reunion of the Malankara Catholic Church with the Catholic Church began with religious fervour in Thiruvalla today.

The Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MCYM) took out a proclamation procession from the Thirumoolapuram St. Mary's Church to the St. John's Cathedral in Thiruvalla as part of the three-day celebrations.

The Muvattupuzha Bishop, Thomas Mar Coorilos, inaugurated the proclamation procession. The Vicar-General of the Church, Stephen Thottathil, hoisted the MCYM Flag prior to the proclamation procession.

The Thiruvalla Bishop, Isaac Mar Cleemis, blessed the ceremonial flag and Geevarghese Mar Themothios hoisted the ceremonial flag on the new copper-plated flagmast on the St John's Cathedral premises in Thiruvalla to mark the beginning of the three-day anniversary meet.

The auxiliary bishop of Thiruvananthapuram, Joshua Mar Ignathios, the Batherry Bishop, Geevarghese Mar Dionysius, the parish priest, Fr. Cherian Ramanalil and Abraham Mulamoottil, were also present.

Consecration

The consecration of the Thiruvalla St. John's Cathedral, which has been rebuilt at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crores, will be held tomorrow afternoon.

The Archbishop of Thiruvananthapuram, Cyril Mar Baselius, will be the chief celebrant at the consecration service to be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

The Apostolic Nuncio of Vatican in India, Archbishop Pedro Lopez Quintana, will read out the papal message on the occasion. Isaac Mar Cleemis and Geevarghese Mar Themothios will also address the function.

Inter-religious meet

The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, will inaugurate the inter-religious meet to be held at the cathedral premises, later at 4-15 p.m.

The Papal representative will deliver the keynote address and Archbishop Cyril Mar Baselius will preside over the meet.

The noted Bhagvatham exponent, Malliyoor Sankaran Nampoothiri, Catholicos of the East, Baselius Mar Thoma Mathews II, Philipose Mar Chrisostum Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Swami Sookshmananda of the Sivagiri Madhom, Kuriakose Mar Sevarius, Bishop Thomas Samuel of the Church of South India, Hafiz P. H. Abdul Gafar Maulavi, Thomas Mar Coorilos, Geevarghese Mar Dionysius, the Vicar General, Stephen Thottathil, and Cherian Ramanalil will also address the meet.

Paswan

The Union Minister for Steel, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Ram Vilas Paswan, will inaugurate the anniversary meet of the Church Reunion on Tuesday. Cyril Mar Baselius will preside over the meet.
