CHENNAI, SEPT. 19. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, G.K. Vasan, has said that attempts being made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to bring disrepute to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre would not succeed, as the people are aware of the BJP's "evil designs." In a statement here, Mr. Vasan said the BJP through its agitations, including the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharati's "tiranga yatra" and its move to stage a dharna in the Andamans, was trying to create problems for the Centre to divert its attention from going ahead with the welfare programmes. But the Centre, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, would not be cowed down by such agitations and would go ahead with its programmes. He warned the BJP that the people would teach the party a fitting lesson if it continued its activities.
