Hockey
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 19. YMCA College, Chennai won the second Dhyan Chand memorial South Zone inter-collegiate hockey tournament defeating Faculty of Arts and Education, Annamalai University 7-5 via the tie-breaker in the final at the LNCPE hockey stadium on Saturday. The teams were level 2-2 at the end of regular time. YMCA seemed to have clinched the match when it held a 2-0 lead with less than eight minutes left for play. But Annamalai pushed the issue into the tie-breaker staging a dramatic comeback in the last 10 minutes. However, Annamalai flattered to deceive in the tie-breaker. Annamalai looked the better side but it failed to convert the chances that came its way. YMCA's attack was restricted to counter attacks. But slack marking by Annamali defence gifted two goals to YMCA. Felix (27th) and Singaravel (41st) profited from the tardy defence to score. The YMCA goal which had many close shaves finally fell when Hari Krishnan scored a field goal in the 52nd minute. Chandrashekar slotted in the equaliser in the very next minute. YMCA won the tie-breaker 5-3. Former Olympian Ashok Kumar, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes.
