Chair to be named after Kanhaiya

By Our Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH, SEPT.19. The Haryana Government has decided to institute a Chair named after Bhai Kanhaiya in the Devi Lal University at Sirsa and include his life-sketch in the syllabi of classes up to middle standard to spread the teachings of the saint.

Addressing a State-level function at Sirsa yesterday on the culmination of the Sadhbhawana Yatra taken out to mark the 300th anniversary celebrations of the Bakshish Diwas (blessings day) of the saint, Mr. Chautala announced that part of the National Highway from Anandpur Sahib to Nander, which falls in Haryana, would be beautified. He said that he had recently visited Pakistan to get inspiration from the life of Bhai Kanhaiya and fetch sacred water from his birth place. This "water'' was mixed with that of Anandpur Sahib and brought to Nadha Sahib Gurudwara from where a Sadhbhawana Yatra was taken through various parts of the State. While paying rich tributes to Bhai Kanhaiya, he described him as the true follower of Guru Gobind Singh who rendered selfless service to humanity.

He criticised the Congress for trying to mislead the people regarding his Pakistan trip and charged that the Congress leaders had tried to gain political mileage out of it. He said that he had no words to express the

love and affection which was showered upon him and the members of the delegation by the people of Pakistan.

He said that the State Government had also celebrated the tercentenary of the birth of Khalsa in a befitting manner besides the 2600th Jan Kalyanak Year of Bhagwan Mahavira. He asserted that it was his regime which had introduced the concept of organising Iftar parties outside the four walls of the bungalows to enable the common man to participate. The Chairman of the Minorities Commission and Rajya Sabha MP,Tarlochan Singh, also spoke.
