YSR to inaugurate Uppal ground

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 19. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will formally inaugurate the new cricket stadium at Uppal, the venue of the three-day match between Australia and the Ranji Trophy champion, Mumbai, from September 30.

This was disclosed by G. Vinod, president of Hyderabad Cricket Association and Minister for Labour & Employment, on Sunday.

Mr. Vinod, who called on Dr. Reddy, along with N. Shivlal Yadav, secretary of HCA, and M.V. Sridhar, joint-secretary of HCA, stressed that the meeting was not to seek any funds for the completion of the next phase, which would cost about Rs. 20 crores.

"We are grateful to the Government for alloting seven acres of land adjacent to the 16-acre of site originally allotted for the Stadium project.

"We personally thanked the Chief Minister for this gesture," he said. "We have duly kept him informed of the latest on the stadium project," said Mr. Vinod to a query. The State Chief Secretary, Mr. Mohan Kanda, who incidentally was a former president of HCA, was also present at the meeting. — Our Sports Reporter
