Temperature

TIRUCHI, SEPT. 19 . The city today registered a maximum temperature of 35.0 degree Celsius and a minimum of 24.5 degree Celsius.

Cycle rally

The AIADMK cadres participated in a cycle rally in Ponmalai and the surrounding areas today to highlight the achievements of the State Government.

The Labour Welfare Minister, P. Annavi, the Fisheries Minister, M. Radhakrishnan, former Minister, K. K. Balasubramaniam, MLA, N. Mariampitchai and M. Paranjothi, secretaries of the urban and rural district units of the party and others participated in the rally, which was flagged off at Sangiliandapuram.

Street theatre

A workshop on street theatre techniques will be organised jointly by the Sri Sivananda Balalaya, Rotary Club of Tiruchi and SPARK, for school students from September 27 to 30. The main objective of the workshop was to impart training to the students in street theatre, which has gained the status of a powerful and effective medium of expression for getting the right message across to the people on issues of social and economic importance. Workshop

The 33rd self-development workshop organised by the Tiruchi Tannambikkai Vasagar Vattam was held here today. Noted self-development trainer, Santhilal Nahar of Chennai who spoke on the topic `how to earn wealth' said every one should aim to become rich for playing a key role in various welfare programmes for the benefit of the poor and downtrodden.

Industrialist K. Baskaran and the founder of the Vasagar Vattam, Kavignar Lena also spoke.

Free eye camp

The Musiri Jaycees in association with the Joseph Eye Hospital and the District Blindness Control Society organised a free eye camp in Musiri town recently. A team of doctors from the Joseph Eye Hospital screened over 250 men and women on the occasion.

Killed

M. Kanagaraj (45) of V. Pudur near Manapparai was killed when the two-wheeler he was riding was knocked down by a van near Manapparai last night. Kanagaraj suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in the city, where he succumbed this morning. The Manapparai police are investigating.
