Noise pollution

Sir, — It is good to know that emission testing will be enforced more strictly. How about a check on noise pollution also? The silencers of buses, lorries, motorcycles and autorickshaws should be tested to reduce noise pollution.

The noise created by these vehicles is increasing. People living near main roads are the most affected by this sort of pollution. Some motorcyclists accelerate their vehicles to the maximum, and the noise created in this process is deafening.

Grow trees

Sir, — Life is getting more hazardous in Bangalore because of the chaotic traffic and growing economic activity. The first casualty of this growth is our environment, especially roadside trees.

Felling of trees has become necessary to expand roads and to prevent loss of life as old trees fall when heavy rain occurs. The authorities concerned should undertake massive planting of trees to ensure ecological balance.

Shelve plan

Sir, — I visited Sri Mallikajuneswara Temple on Sannidhi Road in N.R. Colony during my stay in Bangalore. Listening to Veda parayana at the temple on Monday evenings and on festival days is a unique experience. During my last visit, I came to know that the electricity authorities are planning to construct a transformer station next to the temple. The devotees have requested the authorities not to do so and have suggested alternative sites for the station.

Hence the plan to set up the station near the temple should be revoked to preserve its calm and spiritual atmosphere.

Traffic problem

Sir, — Traffic on CMH Road slows down near Lakshmipuram when there are funeral processions as the gate of Lakshmipuram graveyard is on this road. Steps should be taken to avoid this problem.

Buses needed

Sir, — The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation should introduce two more buses from Vidhana Soudha Layout to Bangalore Bus Station and K.R. Market via Navrang. At present, only two buses are being run on this route.
