Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, SEPT. 19. The Municipal Administration Minister, Koneru Ranga Rao, on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a multi-purpose building complex for setting up Ambedkar-Jagjivan Ram Study Circle for weaker sections on the lines of AP Study Circle in Hyderabad.
Boarding facility
Estimated to cost Rs. 30 lakhs, the building has been designed to house the proposed study circle with the required infrastructure to train students for competitive examinations. The study circle will also have boarding and lodging facilities for students. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said he would strive to obtain funds from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for creating the required infrastructure at the study circle in the interest of weaker sections' students. He said the building would be ready in three months and the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, would be invited to inaugurate it. Meanwhile, residents of the Vambay Colony tried to squat in front of the Minister in protest against the notices issued to them reportedly by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Responding to the complaints, he said action would be initiated against those allegedly involved in selling houses allotted under the Vambay scheme for non-weaker section candidates. He directed the District Collector, K. Prabhakara Reddy, to inquire into the matter. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Prabhakara Reddy and the Vijayawada MP, Lagadapati Rajagopal, the MLAs -- Vangaveeti Radhakrishna and Devineni Rajasekhar -- and the VGTM-UDA Chairman, Malladi Vishnu, and others also spoke.
