Man hacked to death

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, SEPT. 19. A 55-year-old man, Narne Sivaramaiah Chowdhary, was murdered in broad daylight on Sunday close to his house in Ankamma Gudi Street. Two persons pounced on him with pickaxes and knives in the morning when he came out of his house.

A curry leaves businessman, Sivaramaiah, died on the spot. The police suspect property dispute to be the cause behind the murder. No arrests have been made so far, according to the DSP, Satyanarayana.

Sivaramaiah reportedly entered into an agreement with one Prabhakar on May 25 for sale of his house on a 125 sq yards plot in old Guntur for Rs. 8 lakhs. He accepted Rs. 1 lakh advance, but failed to honour the deal by August 25. His son, Srinivas, reportedly opposed the deal on the pretext that the property would be worth much more.

Prabhakar allegedly demanded Rs. 2 lakhs for not honouring the agreement.

The police also suspect the role of a woman, whom Sivaramaiah allegedly had illegal contacts with. The Circle Inspector of Police, Rajanikantha Reddy, is investigating.
