KOCHI, SEPT. 19. Cochin Port Trust expects to sign a licence agreement with Dubai Ports International (DPI) before November 24 for setting up the International Container Trans-shipment Terminal (ICTT) on the Vallarpadam Island. A press release from the Port Trust said that the Letter of Intent for the proposed ICTT was despatched to DPI on September 16 and that DPI had time till October 13 to accept the letter. According to the conditions of the bid, the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal (RGCT) of the Cochin Port would be handed over to DPI until the ICTT is ready. This is necessary for DPI to build the threshold volume of cargo traffic of four lakh TEUs. During the operation of the RGCT, DPI will absorb the employees of the container terminal. Cochin Port is holding discussions with various trade unions for enabling the smooth transfer of the existing Port employees to DPI during the operation of the RGCT by the company, said the press release.
