Traffic diversion

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 19 . Traffic through the Jagathy Junction will regulated from September 20 in view of the installation of drainage pipes there, according to a press release. Vehicles coming from Karamana and Poojapppura via Jagathy should take the Killippalam road. Vehicles coming from the Thirumala side towards Jagathy should turn at Thirumala Pallimukku and take the Idappazhanji-Vazhuthacaud road. The Peroorkada- Mannamoola-Mannarakonam road will be closed to traffic from September 20 to October 10 for maintenance work. An official pressnote here today said traffic would be diverted through the Peroorkada-Manikanteswaram-Nettayam road.

Employment exchange

Normal work at the Neyyatinkara town employment exchange will be affected from September 20 to October 8 on account of computerisation of the office. An official pressnote here said registration, issue and renewal of certificates would be suspended during the period. The pressnote added that employment cards due for renewal in July can be renewed up to November. Those due in August can be renewed up to December while cards expiring in September and October can be renewed up to January, 2005.

Major General visits school

Major General S. P. Sreekumar, chief signal officer, Jammu and Kashmir sector and an alumnus of the Sainik School, Kazhakkuttom, visited the school on September 18. He was accorded a guard of honour by the school contingent. Later, the Major General reviewed the parade and laid a wreath at the `Stupa of Remembrance'.

ISKCON

medical camp

Hundreds of villagers turned up for a free medical camp and food relief programme organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) at Neduvanvila village in Parassala today. The Deputy Speaker, Sundaran Nadar, inaugurated the camp. Food packets were distributed to the participants.

Council to meet Minister

The Action Council for Railway Zone in Kerala will meet the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, at the Government Guest House here on September 21 to press their demand. The council will seek the Minister's intervention in sanctioning a railway zone for the State. The council leaders will also highlight the need for more long-distance and commuter trains, more rakes for existing trains and electrification and doubling of tracks.
