Ease traffic

congestion

Sir, _ We are happy to see the list of new flyovers in the city. Unfortunately, there is no proposal to clear the traffic on Khairatabad-Erragadda road which is plagued by traffic jams day in and day out. The seven-seater autos, private buses and the numerous places of worship add to the confusion. Occasionally, there is a press report mentioning a proposal to construct a flyover from Khairatabad to Erragadda, but nothing has been done so far. Even the encroachments that reduce the so called National Highway to a miserable 20 feet width (at the chest hospital) have not been evicted for years. It is also understood that they were compensated for road widening purpose about 20 years ago, but none has moved out.

Whenever there is a representation from the residential colonies of the area, the departments concerned blame each other. In the meantime the encroachments continue to remain, presumably due to their political clout.

MCH harassing

taxpayers

Sir, _ It is reported that out of 5 lakh taxable properties in the city 40,000 are eligible for exemption and around 3 lakh properties were brought under the self-assessment scheme and the taxes revised about 3 years ago. A major chunk of property owners of about 2.60 lakhs that escaped self-assessment either do not pay taxes or pay nominal amounts.

The MCH may do well to augment their finances by collecting taxes from this section. Instead, the MCH staff are approaching the tax payers who already increased their payments under self assessment scheme by more than 150 to 200 per cent. This is unreasonable and unwarranted and the MCH may do well to stop harassing property owners whose taxes were already revised.

Clear the debris

Sir, __ It's been more than six months since a new pipeline was laid in the lane behind Tulja Bhawan at Kachiguda. However, the debris lying on the road next to some houses (H.No. 3-4-7, 3-4-8 and 3-4-10) has not been removed. This is not only causing much inconvenience to the residents but is also obstructing free flow of traffic.

Help Pennar

investors

Sir,__We invested Rs. 84,000 in Secured Bonds' of Pennar Paterson Ltd, Hyderabad in 1998. The money was due for repayment on 11-12-1999 and 10-06-2000.

The said company was liquidated and an official liquidator had been appointed by the Government of India to settle the matter. More than four years has passed, but the issue has not been settled. I request the authorities to kindly do the needful.

Introduce flight

Sir,__At present one has to change flight at Chennai or Bangalore for the connecting flight to Thiruvananthapuram. Earlier, there was a direct flight from Hyderabad (via) Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram but the service was abruptly withdrawn. Indian Airlines should resume the service. Deccan Airways is also requested to introduce a flight.

Rein in builders

Sir, _ A majority of constructions, both commercial and residential in the twin cities, are either not as per the plan approved by the municipality or constructed without permission. Moreover, the builders who are responsible for the deviations are going scot-free while the purchasers are being put to lot of hardships. The rules should be amended for penalising the builders for illegal constructions in such a way that when the illegal constructions are demolished, the builders must be made to repay the total cost of the flat to the purchasers, including interest. In case of failure to do so, criminal action should be initiated against them. Unless such stringent action is not taken, builders will continue to resort to unauthorised constructions.

A.S. Rao,

Erramanzil
