ADILABAD, SEPT. 20. A People's War naxalite couple, Burra Srinivas Goud alias Venkanna alias Dasru alias Prasad, 35, a resident of Chityal village in Kadam mandal, and Talla Jamuna alias Veena, 30, a resident of Lingapur village in Dharpalli mandal in Nizamabad district, surrendered to the district police here on Monday. Srinivas Goud was the district committee member of West Bastar in Chattisgarh (part of Dandakaranya) and Jamuna was the commander of the Gangapur LGS at the time of their surrender. The couple cited ill-health and worsening conditions of their families as reasons for their surrender.
Chequered careers
Producing them at a press conference, the Superintendent of Police, Kripa Nanda Tripathi Ujela, and the Bellampalli Additional SP, M. Stephen Raveendra, said Srinivas Goud had joined the PW in 1987 and since then worked as a member of the Khanapur sub dalam before being shifted to the Chennur dalam. In 1990, he was shifted to the Tipragarh dalam, which is active in Gadhchiroli district of Maharashtra where he worked as a deputy commander. He also worked as commander of the Maddhed LGS and secretary of Maddhed area committee of PW before being elevated as DCM of West Bastar. Srinivas Goud married Jamuna in 1995 while she was working as a member in Devri dalam in Dandakaranya. Jamuna had joined the Sirnapalli dalam in Nizamabad in 1992. She worked in different dalams in Dandakaranya thereafter. The couple was involved in one exchange of fire with the Chattisgarh police and two ambushes of police parties in 2001 and 2002.
