CUDDAPAH, SEPT. 20. The Cuddapah Superintendent of Police, V.C. Sajjanar, on Monday charged the People's War(PW) with enacting a `high drama' by projecting gullible youth as `coverts' and spreading malafide propaganda on the police machinery and demanded it to tender a public apology.
Explanation sought
Demanding the PW to tender a public apology to the police, at a press conference, he also sought an explanation from the PW leaders on the revelation of a PW sympathiser, Rasheed, of Rayavaram in Rayachoti constituency that he was not kidnapped by the police. Maintaining that the PW's charge that police kidnapped and killed a sympathiser, Paturi Dasarath, was disproved by a written statement of his brother, P. Nagaiah, a B. Tech. graduate, that Dasarath died due to excessive drinking.
SP's charge
Mr. Sajjanar feared that the PW could have shown Rasheed as a covert, if he had not returned to Rayavaram. The SP charged the naxals with branding adolescents, who did not heed their diktats, as coverts and called for a public condemnation. He urged the right-thinking persons in the PW to introspect on the issue of coverts and advise the cadre not to air statements in haste, but ascertain facts. The SP said that the police machinery was creating a congenial atmosphere for negotiations between the Government and naxals. He urged the PW leaders not to hastily react on mere suspicions and stop mudslinging on the police. He hoped that naxals would not harm Rasheed. He refuted the APCLC fact-finding team's conclusion that Dasarath was murdered and that police sent the body for post-mortem on their demand.
