St. Joseph's boys, Brennen girls keep winning

IRINJALAKUDA, SEPT. 20. Repeating their last week's Carmel Trophy triumph, St. Joseph's HSS boys (Pulincunnu) and Government Brennen HSS girls (Thalassery) won the 21st Don Bosco Trophy all-Kerala inter-school basketball tournament which concluded at the Don Bosco indoor stadium here on Monday evening.

St. Joseph's defeated host Don Bosco HSS 59-34 in the boys' section while Brennen pipped Government Vocational HSS (Kannur) 69-64 in the girls' final. The Kannur school's Neena Hareendran shot in 44 points in the girls final but it went in vain.

Fr. Devassy Chirakkal presided over the closing function while Sports Joint Director, Dr N.Gabriel, gave away the prizes.

The results:

Boys' final: St. Joseph's, Pulincunnu 59 (Rahul Krishna 18) bt Don Bosco, Irinjalakuda 34 (Jovin P.Vincent 14). Semifinals: St Joseph's 73 (Arun Manual 26, Thomas Joseph 13) bt G.V.Raja Sports School, Tvm 54 (R.T.Vishnu 20, Robin James 16); Don Bosco 62 (Jithin Paul 16, P.R.Rahul 12) bt St Joseph's, Tvm 61 (Bibinn Chacko 16, A.S.Anish 14).

Girls' final: Govt Brennen, Thalassery 69 (Smitha Sasi 21, M.J.Lija 17) bt GVHSS, Kannur 64 (Neena Hareendran 44). Semifinals: Brennen 54 bt Carmel GHSS, Ktm 38 (M.J.Lija 26, G.Reshma 16); GVHSS, Kannur 54 (Neena Hareendran 17) bt SN Trust, Klm 41 (G.Benny 11). — Our Principal Correspondent
