HYDERABAD, SEPT. 20. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Monday reportedly urged members of the Commission on Farmers' Welfare and officials to evolve a comprehensive programme to provide sustainable livelihood in the rural areas to tackle poverty. Dr. Reddy is learnt to have expressed concern over continued suicides of farmers and weavers and directed officials to come out with a viable employment alternative for the rural masses. The schemes to be included under the food security programme would be identified in about a week and the Chief Minister plans to elicit the opinion of public representatives and his Cabinet colleagues for qualitative additions. The Chief Minister is insisting on a `fail-proof' programme to ensure food security in view of the experience of the previous Government in implementing the FFW programme. The Congress had charged the former Government of misusing the programme for the benefit of TDP workers and leaders. It was one of the key campaign issues for it during the elections too. Dr. Reddy asked officials to check for any loopholes rather than go in for corrective measures later in such a programme.
