Congress to highlight Centre's achievements

CHENNAI, SEPT. 20. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) will organise cycle rallies from September 25 to October 5 throughout the State to highlight the achievements of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre.

The rallies will be conducted in taluk and district headquarters in which local leaders and workers will participate.

The TNCC president, G.K. Vasan, will lead the rally in Chennai on September 25, according to a party release.

Listing out various achievements, the release said the State was the major beneficiary as the Centre sanctioned the Sethusamudram project, declared Tamil a classical language, agreed to set up a desalination plant to provide drinking water to Chennai and withdrew CENVAT for handlooms and powerlooms.

Mr. Vasan would be meeting the party president, Sonia Gandhi, and the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to thank them personally .

He would also request them to address a joint public meeting in Tamil Nadu.
