BANGALORE, SEPT. 20. The Second Additional City Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM), Sridevi, on Monday posted for September 27, an application of Gaya Gayathrinath, accused of alleged involvement in a scheme to defraud banks the world over, for release of his passport. The city police on September 10 had arrested him for defrauding banks of more than $700 million (about Rs. 3,240 crores). The ACMM court had released him on conditional bail the same day. In his application, Mr. Gayathrinath asked the court to release his passport to enable him to approach the U.S. court. The prosecution has objected the application and asked the court not to release the passport till the officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation's Interpol wing came to the city with the documents from their counterparts in the United States.
