Check dams to harness river water

CHANDIGARH, SEPT. 21. The Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, today said that a comprehensive plan has been formulated to construct check dams to harness river waters as only 30 per cent of the river waters were being utilised for various purposes and the remaining were flowing waste to the ocean.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a bridge constructed over the Tangri river near Toka village in Panchkula district, he said that the flood waters of the Yamuna would also be harnessed and utilised for the Ahirwal region. He said that his regime had so far constructed 38 bridges and 25 more were under construction.

While assuring that the rapid pace of development would continue, he said that 1,000 new buses would be added to the State Roadways fleet.

Earlier, he inaugurated a sports hostel at the Sports Complex, Panchkula. It has dormitories to accommodate 50 boys and 30 girls.

He also inaugurated an ultra modern diagnostic centre equipped with the facilities of computerised radiography system, doppler ultrasound machine and fully automatic random access analyser at the Civil Hospital in Panchkula.

The Commissioner and Secretary, Health, Krishna Mohan, apprised the Chief Minister about the functioning of these machines.
