ERODE, SEPT. 21. Councillors belonging to DMK, PMK and Congress staged a walkout from the council meeting of the Periya Agraharam Panchayat today protesting against the move to collect deposits for water connections. The council, presided by its president, Karupannan, passed a resolution fixing deposit amount for the new water connections at Rs. 7,000 for domestic purpose and Rs. 14,000 for commercial purpose. It said that this deposit would be collected only for new connections and no excess deposit would be collected for the existing one. It was also stated that the panchayat would collect Rs. 110 as water charges for the fresh domestic connections and Rs. 250 per month for commercial connections. But the council passed the resolutions with AIADMK support.
