DEHRA DUN, SEPT. 21. In a daring incident, four criminals wearing police uniforms looted a new Alto car and valuables near Mangalore on the Dehra Dun-Delhi highway last night. The car owner, Manoj Saxena, was going from Dehra Dun to Noida with his friends when a Maruti car started following them. After some time, this car went ahead and the "policemen" got out and waved the Alto to a halt. The `cops' checked the vehicle papers and asked Manoj and his friends to take the car they (`cops') were using and follow them to the police station. The victims were however, shocked to find out that the car left behind by the `cops' had no keys. By the time they could react, the criminals masquerading as cops had escaped in the Alto. They immediately informed the Mangalore police station and a search was launched but the Alto could not be recovered. According to the Superitendent of Police, Hardwar (Rural), S R Chauhan, the criminals were part of an inter-state gang that had looted hundreds of cars in a similar way in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Some dismissed cops were also members of this gang.
