BHOPAL, SEPT. 21. The mayoral posts of Bhopal, Gwalior, Dewas, Rewa and Burhanpur has been kept open for the general category candidates whereas the mayoral posts of Indore, Satna and Jabalpur have been reserved for women candidates belonging to the general category. There was a draw of lots here on Monday to reserve the posts of Mayors of Municipal Corporations and Municipalities across the State. While the post of Mayor of Sagar has been reserved for the Scheduled Castes, the Ujjain Mayor's post has been reserved for Scheduled Caste women candidates. The next Ratlam Mayor would also be a woman but she would belong to the other backward classes. Since the tribal population in all 14 Municipal Corporation areas in the State is less than 50 per cent, none of the mayoral posts could be reserved for the Scheduled Tribes category under the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Rules. The Chairman's posts for the Jhabua, Alirajpur, Badwani and Malajkhand Municipalities have been reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. The Malajkhand Municipality Chairperson's post has been reserved for ST women candidates. In all, 12 municipalities in the State would now be headed by those belonging to the Scheduled Castes. Four of these posts -- Amla, Porsa, Dabra and Chanderi -- have been reserved for Scheduled Caste women candidates. Twenty-one municipalities in the State would now be headed by those belonging to the other backward classes (OBCs). The Chairman's posts for Raghogharh, Manawar, Damoh, Raheli, Mandla, Khachrod and Seoni have been reserved for OBC women candidates. The other municipalities that would be headed by those belonging to the OBC category are Mandideep, Biaora, Nepanagar, Sanawad, Sheopur, Itarsi, Harda, Shujalpur, Mandsaur, Nagda, Maihar, Ambah, Jaora, and Pandhurna. The heads of 17 municipalities in the State would now be women belonging to the general category.
