By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 21. The Delhi Government has notified an amendment in the Criminal Procedure Code that allows for extension of judicial remand of undertrials lodged in Tihar Central Jail here through video conferencing.

It is learnt that the notification was issued on September 15, following which the jail authorities are planning to float a tender for procurement and setting up of equipment facilitating video conferencing. They have also identified places where studios would be set up for the purpose.

The authorities have identified three rooms in the Tis Hazari court premises, one in Karkardooma and one in Patiala courts for setting up of the studios. Similar arrangements would be made in Jail Nos. 1, 3 and 4.

On an average, 1,400 undertrials are taken to various courts for appearance every day.
