THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 21. The Institution of Homoeopaths Kerala (IHK) has termed as `unscientific', the mass drug administration (MDA) programme for checking the spread of filariasis, proposed to be undertaken by the Directorate of Health Services on September 24. At a press conference here on Tuesday, the IHK president, Sundaram Velayudhan, and the general secretary, S. Manilal, claimed that mass treatment of the population using DEC tablets did not find mention in authentic medical texts. They claimed that the DHS should make their intention clear as to why DEC tablets were being distributed in districts where there were no filariasis patients. The MDA programme should not be carried out before allaying the fears of the public over the safety of the drug, they demanded. The IHK representatives also claimed that homoeopathy medicines acted as a drug as well as a preventive in the human body and that those who are undergoing homoeo treatment now need not take the DEC tablets
