TIRUPATI. Sept. 21. Sri Venkateswara University will shortly sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for utilising the services of the recently launched Educational Satellite (EDUSAT) during its semi-operational phase, which is likely to commence after a month once the satellite completes its listed manoeuvres.
Fifth institution
The university will be the fifth institution in the country to sign an MoU with the ISRO on EDUSAT, which was successfully launched from Sriharikota on Monday. The other four institutions that had signed MoUs are Visveswaraiah Technological University, Bangalore, All India Council of Technical Education (AITEC), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and another university in Maharashtra. The SVU authorities already had a preliminary round of discussions in this regard with the Chairman of the ISRO, Madhavan Naidu, during his visit to Tirupati on September 17 for the customary pre-launch worship of Lord Venkateswara. The university's Vice-Chancellor, P. Murali, and the Director of the MST Radar Facility, Tirupati, D. Narayana Rao, were among those who participated in the deliberations.
YSR visit
Mr. Rao, who is also a member on SVU's executive council, said that he was asked by the ISRO Chairman to coordinate the preliminaries for signing of the MoU tentatively scheduled for September 30 when the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, was expected to visit the campus to participate in the valedictory of SVU's year-long silver jubilee celebrations. The MoU which would be in force for a period of two years, would provide for an up and down linking between the EDUSAT and the university besides its inter-linking with 30 select colleges coming under its jurisdiction. The ISRO is said to be willing to sponsor the inter-linking project expected to cost it Rs.2 crores.
