India ranked fifth
CHENNAI,
SEPT. 21.
Despite the seventh place finish at the Athens Olympics, India clawed its way to the fifth spot in the Sahara World Hockey Team rankings (it was sixth last year), thanks to the silver medal in the Asiad at Busan and the gold-winning performance at the Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur last November.
Australia took the top spot after its golden show at Athens.
The current rankings (top-10):
Men: 1. Australia, 2. Germany, 3. Netherlands, 4. Pakistan, 5. India, 6. Korea, 7. Spain, 8. England, 9. New Zealand and 10. Argentina.
Women: 1. Argentina, 2. Netherlands, 3. Australia, 4. China, 5. Germany,
6. Korea, 7. New Zealand, 8. England, 9. Spain and 10. Japan. India is 15th.
