HYDERABAD, SEPT. 21. Wesley Junior College won The Hindu Trophy under-19 cricket tournament, defeating St. Mary's Junior College (Himayathnagar) by 252 runs in the three-day final at the Gymkhana Grounds on Tuesday. Wesley scored 406 for six in 90 overs on the first day and St. Mary's posted 200 in reply. Resuming its second innings at 68 without loss, Wesley scored 230 for one in the stipulated 40 overs with J. Anshul scoring an unbeaten 110 (13x4). Chasing 436 for victory, St. Mary's managed 180 for three in 40 overs. Anshul was named `player of the tournament' and won a cash prize of Rs.2,500 and a trophy. The teams were presented kits by the sponsors, The Hindu group of publications. Mr. G. Vinod, President of Hyderabad Cricket Association and Minister for Labour and Employment, who gave away the prizes, appreciated The Hindu. "I sincerely appeal to all of you to inculcate discipline, dedication and integrity to grow up in the game," he told the players. Mr. P. Ranga Reddy, Regional Manager, The Hindu, Hyderabad, said it was a pleasure to be associated with cricket as The Hindu is known for its extensive coverage of sports. He thanked the HCA for its support.
