CHENNAI, SEPT. 20. A one-day refresher course on economics for some 100 higher secondary school teachers was held at Dr. MGR Janaki College recently. The principal, Rukmani, who has been a professor of economics for 30 years, said the decision to hold the session was taken after the revised syllabus for Plus-One students was deemed too extensive and filled with historical details that students might find difficult to memorise. According to her, ``The standard is too high. We are worried that this move may scare the average student away from studying economics at the graduate level. In fact, the theory and concepts these children have to study are equivalent to the Master's level.'' The teachers were given compact discs with various questions and answers on economics. A similar refresher course will be held in the college in October in microbiology.
