Cases registered
Even as the idol immersion passed off peacefully in Tirupur on Monday, based on a complaint filed by the Hindu front activists, the Tirupur Police registered cases against five cadres of the Communist Party of India (CPI) for unlawful assembly and causing religious animosity by resorting to desecration of Vinayakar idol. On a complaint filed by the CPI cadre, cases were registered against 20 Hindu outfit activists for unlawful assembly and causing damages to property for the attack on the CPI office. To defuse tension, the Coimbatore Rural SP, R. Dhinakaran, along with reinforcements, was camping at the hosiery town.
