NEW DELHI, SEPT. 21. A 23-year-old man has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly stealing two cheques belonging to his former employer and getting one of them encashed by forging his signature. According to the police, a case had been registered at the Prashant Vihar police station in North-West Delhi on September 17 after Virender Kumar, owner of an advertising agency, found that Rs. 95,000 had been withdrawn from his account at Prashant Vihar Branch of Kangra Cooperative Bank and that his two cheques had been missing. Inquiries by the Crime Branch revealed that the suspect would come to the bank again to withdraw money using the second stolen cheque on Monday. A trap was laid and the suspect, later identified as Ganesh Ram, a resident of Madhya Pradesh presently staying in a rented accommodation at Samaipur Badli in North-West Delhi, was arrested. The stolen cheque was recovered from his person, while a search of his house led to the recovery of Rs. 72,000 in cash. Interrogation of the accused revealed that Mr. Kumar had hired Ganesh as a field boy, at a salary of Rs. 2,500 per month, in his advertising agency through an advertisement which had appeared in a Hindi daily sometime ago. However, he was not happy with Ganesh's performance and fired him on September 10. On September 16, Mr. Kumar visited his Bank and realised that not only Rs. 95,000 had been withdrawn from his account but also two cheques from his cheque-book were missing. The money had been withdrawn on September 15. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint with the police. The police said Ganesh, who completed his graduation from Guru Ghazi Das University in Madhya Pradesh in 2001, knew martial arts and held a yellow belt in Taekwondo. He had earlier worked in many courier agencies as field agents. Further investigations in the case are on.
