Walia promises 24-hour power for trans-Yamuna

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 21. Power distribution system in East Delhi is being revamped at a cost of Rs. 2,000 crore to provide uninterrupted power to residents of trans-Yamuna area, the Delhi Urban Development and Finance Minister, A.K. Walia, said today.

Inaugurating the renovated 33/11 KV Grid Station at Geeta Colony in East Delhi, Dr. Walia said the capacity of the station, upgraded at a cost of Rs. 2 crore, has been increased from 16 MVA to 20 MVA. This would provide uninterrupted power to residents here and also of nearby colonies, he said. He said a grid station would be set up at Shakarpur shortly, providing relief to the power supply woes of residents of Guru Anand Nagar and areas nearby. Terming the privatisation of Delhi's electricity distribution system a success, Dr. Walia said that an MOU would be signed between the power distribution companies, MCD and PWD for proper maintenance of streetlights. -- PTI
