An eye-opener Sir, The article on the former Chief Minister, C.N. Annadurai, (September 15) is an eye-opener to the people and his followers. It showed how Anna's ideals of duty, dignity and discipline have been allowed to fall on the wayside. Nowadays, all parties claim to uphold his ideals. But sadly, none is interested in public welfare, and all of them are self-centred and avaricious. Had he been alive today, he would have been a frustrated man. R.K. Sundaram, Madurai. No water supply Sir, For four months, then has been no water supply through pipes to many houses in Duraisamy Nagar II Cross Street. They have to depend on the tanker lorry supply, which is erratic. The Duraisamy Nagar Residents' Welfare Association has brought this problem to the notice of the Corporation Commissioner. The Corporation should immediately arrange for regular supply, or it should stop levying water tax. A. Chidambaram, Madurai. Poor roads Sir, The poor condition of roads has caused hardship to the residents of Duraisamy Nagar. The roads, which were dug four months ago for laying the underground drainage, have not been closed. The recent rain has added to the problem. May I request the authorities to look into this? U. Devaki, Madurai. II
Sir, Trenches were recently dug at Vanamamalai Nagar, Velmurugan Nagar and Duraisamy Nagar for the underground drainage. However, they were not closed properly. The roads are full of potholes. The loose soil that covered the trenches caved in after the recent rain. The result: vehicles get stuck. And even one can't walk easily. I hope the Corporation will soon relay the roads. V.S. Sankaran, Madurai. Crowd regulation Sir, A few days ago, I went to Alagarkovil with my friends. The temple management has made good arrangements for devotees at the temple and at Pazhamuthirsolai. But at Nooburagangai, people virtually struggle to take bath. Hence, I request the management to post a couple of its employees there to regulate the crowd. L. Baskar, Madurai. Revised pay Sir I retired as Selection Grade Office Manager in the Dairy Development Department on October 31, 1996. Despite several pleas to the Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, for eight years, the Commissioner of Milk Production, Chennai, is yet to fix my pay for the post I had held with effect from July 12, 1994. Hence, I could not get pension for the revised scale for eight years from November 1, 1996. Hence, I request the Secretary and the Commissioner to fix my pay at the earliest. Uthavi Raj, Madurai. Fix the lamps Sir, The 120 Feet Road, connecting Melur Road and Surveyor Colony, is widely used. Many of the 33 sodium vapour lamps installed on this stretch are not functioning. Those who use this road at night are at risk. I request the Corporation to rectify the lamps. C.A. Pradeep, Madurai. Street dog menace Sir, A large number of stray dogs roam about in the ward 6 at K.K.Nagar, giving trouble at night to the residents and domestic animals and pets. I request the Corporation to contain this menace. M. Sadha Sivam, Madurai. Insensible Sir, The Madurai Corporation has recently issued a fiat on water supply. I wonder how the construction of a sump without lowering the level of pipeline can be construed as illegal. Of course, attaching a power motor to the house connection is illegal. The civic body has also laid down that the tap be constructed 1.5 feet above the ground level, and in front of the home. Many residents could not get water when the tap is .5 feet above the ground level. Hence, the guidelines do not seem to be sensible. Instead, the Corporation should maintain well its lines, so that every household receives supply for an hour daily. P.K. Sundaram, Madurai.
