CHENNAI, SEPT. 21. Colourful processions and lectures marked the 1,400th birth anniversary celebration of Hazrat Abul Fazlil Abbas, grandson of the Prophet Mohammed in Perambur. The procession on horseback began at the Hussainia Imam Ali Madarsa and made its way through the streets of the Mohallah before terminating at Ali Bagh. The Chief Shia Khazi, Government of Tamil Nadu, Gulam Mohammed Mehdi Khan, Imam-e-Jummali, greeting the people on the occasion, said he prayed for communal harmony among Hindus and Muslims as also for prosperity and bountiful rains. Mir Jaffer Imam Moosavi, All-India Shia Conference general secretary; Sabira Mazhar Hussain, speaker in Islam; Mir Aulad Hussain, president of the Organising Committee; Mir Muthahir Hussain, secretary; Mir Mohammed Mehdi Hussain, treasurer; and Turab Hussain, convener, participated. In the `Ladies function', there was a Mehfil of `Qasaid Qhani' at the Madarsa. Around 500 persons from different parts of the city took part. Tomorrow, Rayees Ahmed at the Madrasa will present a lecture programme.
