Former Editor dead

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 22. Former Managing Editor of Times of India, Ramesh Chandra Jain died here today after a prolonged illness. He was 79. Mr. Jain is survived by his wife and two sons.

Associated with the Times of India Group of Publications for over four decades, he occupied the position of Managing Director and later Managing Editor of the newspaper. He served as President of the Indian Newspaper Society and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Press Trust of India in 1978.

He was holding the post Chairman of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi.

Condoling Mr. Jain's death, the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, said he played an important role in taking Hindi journalism to the pinnacle of success.

``He will be remembered for the notable contribution he made in the field of journalism with his hardwork and foresight,'' Mr. Vajpayee said in his condolence message.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister, S. Jaipal Reddy, described Mr. Jain as a versatile personality. — PTI, UNI
