Workshop on farm credit policy
COIMBATORE: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Canara Bank (the Lead Bank of the district) conducted a one-day workshop here on the farm credit policy package.
A release from Canara Bank said that during 2003-04, in Coimbatore district, total disbursements under agriculture by all the banks were around Rs. 618 crores. According to the new farm credit policy announced by the Centre, banks would have to lend 30 per cent more than what had been disbursed during the previous year under agriculture. Hence, the total agriculture disbursements in the district for this year were Rs. 803.36 crores.
The workshop was inaugurated by the District Collector, S. Kosalaraman, and hence 60 bank managers in the district had participated. Technical sessions were organised on various horticultural crops such as vanilla, jatropha and medicinal plants.
