Women seek protection from anti-social elements
By Our Staff Reporter
KANCHEEPURAM,
SEPT. 22.
A group of women from Pallavarmedu thronged the Siva Kanchi police station today seeking `protection' from anti-social elements.
The women claimed that they were living in fear because of the `unchecked' activities by anti-social elements, especially illicit arrack and contraband sales. They also demanded the release of four persons who were taken into custody by the police for interrogation in connection with a complaint filed by a woman.
The demonstrators dispersed after local partymen held talks with the police and obtained an assurance that the case would be settled amicably.
The police said Senthil, Thirunavukarasu, Anbu and Sait were taken into custody on a complaint from Karpagam that they threatened her while travelling in an autorickshaw two days ago.
