RAICHUR, SEPT. 22. Raichur district received heavy rainfall on Tuesday night. Most of the low-lying localities in Raichur city, including Bhangikunta, Basawanabhavi Circle, Myadarwadi, and Mouleshwar Chowk, were flooded. Traffic on Netajinagar-Shroff Bazaar Road, Teen Khandil-Ek Minar Road, and Mouleshwar Chowk-Gunj Road was affected for four hours till 8 p.m. after open drains in these areas overflowed. Water also gushed into a few houses in Nijalingappa Colony.
Bridge washed away
Except Sindhanoor taluk, heavy rainfall was reported in the other four taluks of the district. However, a nala in Sindhanoor town began to overflow following heavy rainfall in the catchment area. A temporary bridge across the nala was washed away by the floodwater. This affected the movement of vehicles between Raichur and Sindhanoor for some time. Buses took a diversion via Lingsugur to reach Sindhanoor, Hubli, Gangavathi, Koppal, Hospet, Bellary, Shimoga, and Bangalore. According to official reports, Raichur taluk received a record rainfall of 75.1 mm on Tuesday. Twenty-three mm of rainfall was recorded in Deodurga, Manvi, and Lingsugur taluks. The district has received 151.4 mm of rainfall as against the normal of 152.1 mm for the month.
