Four records set

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 22. Four records were set on the opening day of the 35th State schools aquatic meet at the Water Works Swimming Pool here on Wednesday. Swimmers from sports division stole a march over their general school competitors by accounting for all the records set on the first day. M. Mini and C. Abhilash, who set records in the senior State Championships last week, carried their form into this meet as they erased the existing marks in 200m breaststroke (senior girls) and 100m backstroke (senior boys) events. Mini broke Sumy Cyriac's nine-year-old mark (3:03.66) by clocking 3:01.99.

Arun Kumar of SAI, Thrissur shattered one of the oldest record, in 400m senior boys freestyle event. Arun Kumar clocked 4:41.88 to obliterate R. Kumar's 19-year-old mark of 4:48.53.

Josna P. Joy set the other record of the day in senior girls 200m freestyle event. Josna clocked 2:26.07 to break Anju George's old mark (2:31.88) set last year.

Kumar (Spdn, Tvm), 1986. 200m breaststroke: 1. K.R. Rajeev (Pala), 2. B.Arun (Tvm), 3. A. Arshad (Tvm), (2:59.27). 200m butterfly: 1. K. Rajesh Kumar (Tvm), 2. L. Arunlal (Atl), 3. S. Vishnu (Tvm), (2:37.08). 100m backstroke: 1. C. Abhilash (Spdn, Tvm), 2. Rajesh (Spdn, Tvm), 3. Shibin Joseph (Spdn, Tvm), (1:06.57 - NMR; OR - 1:07.50, P. Bineesh, Spdn, Tvm, 2003).

Juniors: 200m breaststroke:1. J.S. Niju (Atl), 2. A.S. Anand (Tvm), 3. M.V. Midhileshkumar (Atl), (2:53.70).

Sub-juniors: 200m breaststroke: 1. S.S. Sujithmon (Kut), 2. V.P. Vineesh (Atl), 3. S. Sarath (Atl), (3:13.04).

Senior girls: 200m freestyle: 1. V. Ajitha (Pkd), 2. K.M. Bindhu (Wyd), 3. V.C. Amritha (Tvm), (2:47.71. Josna P.Joy (SAI, Tsr) set a new meet record (2:26.07); OR - 2:31.88, Anju George (SAI, Tsr), 2003. 200m breaststroke: 1. Julie Joseph (Pala), 2. B.R. Neenu (Tvm), 3. K. Anitha (Pkd), M. Mini (SAI, Tsr) sets a new meet record (3:01.99); OR - 3:03.66, Sumy Cyriac (Pala), 1995.
