Ethnic clip art CD
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM
SEPT. 22.
The Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) has released the second volume of its `Ethnic Clip Art CD' on Kerala. In a press release here today, the Registrar of C-DIT, K. Asok Kumar, said the volume contained 1,000 digital images and 50 Carnatic music clips. The CD is conceived as a resource material for students, DTP professionals, designers, advertisers and animators and all PC users. The music clips are classified under various moods like sorrow, deep sorrow, joy, romance etc., and are amenable to looping. Centre for dance, music
The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, will inaugurate the full-fledged centre for dance and music at the sprawling compound of Vyloppilly Bhavan here on September 24, the Minister for Culture, A.P. Anil Kumar, said here on Tuesday. He said that it was proposed to be a Centre of Excellence for studies and research on dances and the State's culture. Mr. Anil Kumar announced that a national seminar on classical dance would also be organised in connection with the inauguration (from September 24 to 27). He said the Government would be taking special efforts to ensure better involvement of local self-governments in this year's `Keralotsavam' aimed at encouraging artistic talents. The local level festivals would be inaugurated at Nedumbassery village panchayat on September 25. This would be followed by competitions at the block and district level. The State level festival would be held in Kollam from November 28 to 30. He said that the Government had allocated Rs.1 crore for the programmes.
Permanent debar
The PSC has permanently debarred from all its tests 20 candidates who, according to a Vigilance probe, had a role in the leak of the question paper of the examination conducted by it on August 16, 2003 for the selection of LDCs to various departments.
A people's victory: RSP
The RSP State secretary, T.J. Chandrachoodan, termed `people's victory over corruption' the Cabinet decision to suspend all follow-up action on the proposal for private mineral sand mining off the Alappuzha coast. In a statement here today, Prof. Chandrachoodan said the Opposition LDF would continue with its agitation against the proposal as the Government had not cancelled the NOC it had given to the private group for taking up sand mining in the area.

A Full Court reference was held at the Kerala High Court today to bid farewell to
Justice G. Sivarajan who retired today from service. The Chief Justice, N.K. Sodhi, the Advocate General, M. Ratna Singh, and the Kerala High Court Advocates Association president, K. Ramkumar, spoke. The reference was attended by all the judges of the High Court.
One dies of cholera
THRISSUR
SEPT.22.
The district medical authorities today confirmed that Usha (34) from Orumanayur in Chavakkad who died two days back was suffering from cholera. They said this was confirmed after the culture test conducted with the samples of stool from the deceased patient at the Medical College Hospital, Thrissur. Kaliamma (62) who is a close relative of late Usha, was also confirmed to be suffering from cholera. But she is now out of danger and has been discharged from the hospital. There are reports of acute diarrhoeal disease (ADD) in Kadappuram and Pavaratty panchayats. However barring these two cases there has been no confirmed report of any cholera case from the district in the recent days. The DMO, P.V. Mohanan, said steps were being taken to contain the ADD and to prevent the spread of cholera in those areas. The district panchayat convened a meeting of the people's representatives in the district to discuss the steps to be taken to prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases.
Maryvijayam awards
The annual awards instituted by the Maryvijayam Sahitya Samithy have been announced. The former director of the State Institute of Children's Literature, Pala K.M. Mathew, the director of Daivadan, Fr. Abraham Kaippanplackal, and David Koonammuchi have been selected for the Darsana, Dr. John Chirayathu and Dr. Joseph Natayathu Awards. `Kavalkkili', written by K.V. Baby, has been selected for the Fr. S. Thevarmatam Poetry Award. The awards, carrying a purse of Rs.3,000 each, will be presented at a function at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Hall here on September 25.
Minister to open nursing college

The Health Minister, K.K. Ramachandran, will inaugurate the Vellapally Natesan Sashtyabhda Memorial College of Nursing here on October 1. The college is managed by the Sree Narayana Trusts Medical Mission. The inaugural function will be presided over by the chairman of the S.N. Trusts, Pattathuvila Damodaran.

A high-level team from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) will visit the Caramel College, Mala, on Friday and Saturday to evaluate various activities in the college. The team will comprise B. Shivarama Holla from Mangalore University, A.M. Puttaswamy Gowda from Mysore, and J. Balasingh from St. John's College, Palayamkottai.
Samithy protest
The Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samithy has protested against the arrest of a temple priest in connection with the Fr. Job Chittilappilly murder case. Fr. Chittilappilly, Vicar of St. Varaprasada Matha Church at Thuruthiparambu, was found dead with stab injuries on August 28. In a statement here on Wednesday, the Samithy alleged that the police had tortured the priest even after arresting the prime accused in the case. The situation was such that the temple could not function, the statement added.

Mohiniyattom dancer Kalamandalam Hemalatha will present choreography on the life of Kurooramma at the Melpathur Auditorium in Guruvayur, near here, on September 27. The show, inspired by Unnikrishnan Puthoor's literary work, `Guruvayoorappante Thulasimala', is being organised by Devi Kalamandalam, a press release said.

The sixth National Dog Show, organised by the Kottayam Kennel Club, one of the six KCI registered kennel clubs in the State, will begin on September 25. Speaking to presspersons here today, the organisers said more than 300 dogs would be presented at the show which would be held simultaneously on two rings at Jawharlal Nehru Stadium. Only KCI registered dogs would be permitted. C.V. Sudarshan (Chennai) and Parthasekhar Chatterjee (Kolkata) will be the judges.
