HYDERABAD, SEPT. 22. The schedule that the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) had drawn for recarpeting of different road stretches has been affected by rain in the city. Of late, the civic body has been attracting lot of flak for the bad conditions that mark most main thoroughfares and also the internal roads. While the road cutting has left several stretches badly bruised, others have ended up with potholes, cracks and peeled tar.
327 roads identified
The corporation had identified 327 roads in need of attention and earmarked Rs. 15 crores for the purpose. In the initial phase, 86 roads were considered and work was started on some of them at Langar Houz, Barkas, Shivam, B.R.K.R.Bhavan and Kavadiguda on September 15. However, rain has acted as a dampener on the MCH plans and officials appear apprehensive of meeting the September 28 deadline. A senior official said 17 pavers and road rollers along with necessary manpower were already deployed at these stretches and the work began as per the schedule, but it was affected due to the occasional drizzle in the last few days and the downpour on Wednesday. "For recarpeting work, we need clean and dry roads. The hot mix plant will not work in rain and any carpeting done will get washed away if we go ahead," said an official.
