This Day That Age
The External Affairs Ministry expects that by the middle of October it would be possible to secure de facto transfer of authority over the French Indian settlements. Enquiries in New Delhi show that the External Affairs Ministry has not received any communication from Paris setting out the schedule of dates for the merger of the settlements with India. The preliminary discussions between the Governments of India and France are proceeding satisfactorily according to authoritative sources. It is the hope of the Government of India that the present negotiations would reach a stage by September 29, the date fixed for the debate on foreign affairs in the Lok Sabha, when it would be possible for Prime Minister Nehru to make an announcement on the subject.
