This Day That Age
Work in connection with the electrification of the third track (the present track on which steam trains run) on the Southern Railway between Madras Egmore and Tambaram, a distance of about 15 miles, is to be taken up early. The scheme, which will approximately cost Rs. 7 lakhs, is expected to be completed before the end of next year. At present there are two tracks for the electric trains between Beach and Tambaram. When a cable is laid over the steam train track between Egmore and Tambaram, it is felt it will enable the electric trains to run on this third track also, thus relieving congestion on the suburban service.
