Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
Officials of both sides who met in Haldwani on Wednesday felt that the local residents had to be sensitised against the evil designs of the Maoists waging a war against the Nepalese Government and threatening Indian leaders with dire consequences if India supported any drive against them.
The Uttaranchal police have pasted posters of the 14 Nepal Maoists who had escaped from the Mahendra Nagar Jail of Nepal on September 11 last in Udham Singh Nagar, Khatima and Nanakmatta as they may have sneaked into these areas.
The Union Government is reported to have asked Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to be alert of the activities of the Maoists in areas bordering Nepal.
The Uttaranchal Government is taking the matter seriously after confirmation of some training camps that were organised by the Nepal Maoists in Indian forests bordering Nepal. "We are very much aware of the dangers the Maoists can spell by misguiding the simple Uttaranchalis and all out efforts are being made to nip the problem in the bud itself", a senior police official said.
The officials are organising special camps in the rural areas of Nainital, Champawat, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar districts to educate the villagers and students and asking them to inform the security forces or local administration if they see any suspicious men or women or activities in their areas.
