India `encouraged' by Musharraf's remarks

By Sridhar Krishnaswami

UNITED NATIONS, SEPT. 23. India is encouraged that Pakistan remains committed to the ongoing dialogue process and it is consistent in its view that all outstanding issues between the two countries could be sorted out through peaceful bilateral dialogue.

``We have seen Musharraf's remarks on India-Pakistan relations and are encouraged that Pakistan remains committed to the ongoing dialogue process with India. It has been our consistent position that all outstanding issues between the two countries, including Jammu and Kashmir, can be resolved through peaceful bilateral dialogue,'' the spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs, Navtej Sarna, said.

Asked about a remark by Gen. Musharraf during the course of his address to the United Nations General Assembly that Pakistan was giving bilateralism ``a final chance,'' Mr. Sarba said: ``We are engaged in a well considered and sustained process from which we would not be deflected by this or that remark from whatever quarter.

``The fulfilment of Pakistan's assurance to end all cross-border terrorism from any territory under its control is of great importance.''
