KOCHI, SEPT. 23. The Government doctors here registered their protest against the pressures faced by the doctors posted at various Primary Health Centres in the wake of the death of a doctor, Philomina Vijayan, of Community Health Centre, Thalakulathur, Kozhikode, by striking work for two hours in the morning today. The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) had called for a two-hour strike in the morning to focus attention on the working conditions of the doctors posted in the rural areas.
Response total
"It is a situation that every doctor has faced and the response to the strike call was total," said the State General Secretary of KGMOA, Junaid Rehman. The doctors started seeing outpatients only by 10.30 a.m. while those doctors working in the casualty department were working throughout, Dr. Junaid said. The doctors at all hospitals in fact had put in extra time to see through the number of patients in the OP, he said.
