THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 23. The Health Minister, K.K. Ramachandran, announced here today that the Government would strive to promote Kerala as a world destination for Ayurveda. He was speaking after receiving the project profile for an International Institute of Ayurvedic Medical Sciences prepared by the Directorate of Ayurvedic Medical Education and the Environment and Development Initiatives for Thiruvananhapuram (EDIT). Estimated to cost Rs.150 crores, the proposed institute will be equipped with a 500- bed hospital, R&D infrastructure for drug development and validation, research facilities and a gene bank for medicinal and aromatic plants. It will also have an Ayurveda museum and library. The Minister received the project profile from Varkala Radhakrishnan, MP. The former Chief Secretary, R. Ramachandran Nair, presided over the function. The EDIT president, A. Kasthurirangan, the chairman of the Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority, P.K. Venugopal, and the managing director of Pankajakasthuri, J. Harindran Nair, also participated.
