ISLAMABAD, SEPT. 24. Ryan C. Crocker has been named the new Ambassador of the United States in Pakistan. An announcement by the U.S. Embassy said Mr. Crocker, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, is now the International Affairs Advisor at the National War College. The present Ambassador to Pakistan, Nancy J. Powell, will be returning to Washington to assume the position of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the State Department's Bureau of Legislative Affairs, the announcement said. Mr. Crocker previously served as the Director of Governance for the Coalitional Provisional Authority in Iraq. Prior to this, he was a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. Mr. Crocker has also served as Ambassador to Syria, Kuwait and Lebanon. Mr. Crocker's nomination by the U.S. President, George W. Bush, will now pass to the U.S. Senate for confirmation.
