Rain likely

Forecast: A spell of rain or thundershower. At Waltair, the maximum temperature was 31.4 degree Celsius and the minimum was 26 degree Celsius respectively on Friday. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 75 per cent and at 5.30 p.m was 76 per cent. At Airport, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 34.6 degree Celsius and 26.4 degree Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 66 per cent and at 8.30 p.m. was 72 per cent. The maximum and minimum temperature at the Dolphin's Nose were 31.3 degree Celsius and 23.6 degree Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 82 per cent.

Inter-college

competitions

A three-day inter-collegiate competition `RARA AVIS' is being organised by the MIST Degree College from September 27. The objective of the programme is to encourage latent talent among youth. It also aims at promoting team spirit and leadership qualities, according to its principal, B. Umabala, and the correspondent, M.A. Ali Khan. The events include quiz, spot painting, ad. mad. show, mimicry, solo singing and `Just a minute'.

Rotary gesture

The Rotary Club of Visakha Port City donated 200 stainless steel plates, tumblers and buckets to the inmates of the Central Prison recently. The articles were handed over its Superintendent, B. Sunil Kumar, by the club president, Anuradha Reddy. Its secretary, V.G. Chacko, the Deputy Superintendent, B. Saidayya, and the Jailor, Ramgopal, were present.

Service tax

on phones

Service tax of 10 per cent plus a two per cent educational cess thereon will be collected from all Telecom services of STD public booths with effect from September 10, according to a press release from the Office of the General Manager (Telecom) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.

Medical camp

A free medical camp will be conducted on Sunday at the Mandal Upper Primary High School of Yerukavanipalem. Eye and gynaecology specialists and general practitioners will examine patients and distribute medicines free of cost. The camp is jointly organised by the Visteel Mahila Samithi, the Medical Department of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and the Doctors Trust.
