NEW DELHI, SEPT. 24. A 27-year-old man has been arrested by the South Delhi on charges of murdering an elderly NRI woman, whose body was found in her flat at Nizamuddin in South Delhi in December last. The accused, who worked as a domestic help in the house of deceased, murder her because she had not paid him his salary for the past ten months. Kaushalya Devi was found murdered at her Jangpura Extension house on December 29. Her hands and legs were tied with cords and she had been smothered to death. Enquiries revealed that Kaushalya's two sons and two daughters were settled in the United States and she also lived there. However, she would come here occasionally to sort out some property disputes. During questioning, Kaushalya's son-in-law, A. Chaudhary, who looked after her property matters, said a rickshaw puller, Mohammad Hasim, who worked in her house, had gone missing after the incident. While the police were trying to trace Hasim, they came to know that his mother-in-law had been spotted in the Nizamuddin area. She revealed that Hasim was at Chandosi in Uttar Pradesh where he worked with a famous magician. Subsequently, the police went there but were told that Hasim had shifted to Narela. The police traced him on Thursday and detained him for interrogation. He broke down and confessed to having killed Kaushalya because was not giving him his salary for the past ten months. She had employed him saying she would give Rs. 1,500 per month, but later she stopped the payment. A day before she was murdered, Hasim requested her to pay the entire amount on which she abused him. Hasim then decided the eliminate her. On the fateful day, he tied her hands and legs with cords and smothered her to death, after which he took out Rs. 5,000 and some documents from her purse and vanished from the scene.
