NEW DELHI, SEPT. 24. A Delhi court today fixed October 1 as the date for recording of evidence in the extradition proceedings to deport Maninder Singh Kohli, charged with raping and murdering British teenager Hannah Foster to Britain to face trial there. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Ravinder Dudeja, will record the statement of a senior officer of the Ministry. Mr. Dudeja initiated the extradition proceedings on September 10 on a request by the Ministry which had earlier got a call for extradition of the accused person from the British police and issued a notice to the Tihar Jail Superintendent here on an application by the accused, alleging that the jail authorities were ill-treating him and keeping him with criminals. Kohli urged the court to direct the jail authorities to keep him in a B-class cell. The Magistrate will take his application for hearing on October 1. He later extended his judicial remand till that date. Counsel for the Ministry, A.K. Wali and Navin Kumar Matta, had during the last hearing on September 10 submitted certain papers to the Magistrate informing him that the Ministry wanted extradition of the accused to Britain on the basis of the documents made available to it by police of that country. Kohli was brought here on September 10 on a production warrant issued by the ACMM. He was arrested on July 15 at Kalimpong in Darjeeling in West Bengal and was later lodged in Chandigarh jail in connection with another case there.
